Coming hybrids

…from the most successful hybrid car makers in the world – http://www.autoobserver.com/2008/06/honda-hybrid-may-be-called-insight-set-to-out-prius-the-prius.html

The current Prius technology is a decade old – so expect a big jump in new models.

Honda, despite always having far better petrol engines in their low-cost hybrids than Toyota, have been left well behind by Toyota – so expect an even bigger jump!

Interesting times ahead.

None of these hybrids will be TOO interesting until electrification makes its way into V8-powered RWD touring and sports cars (coupled, of course, with turbocharging/”twincharging”, direct ethanol injection octane boosting, cylinder deactivation, and perhaps a turbo-compound “blow-down” turbine or a “blow-down” turbine-powered auxillary alternator).

Until then, low-performance hybrids will only be of mild interest to the avant garde and those who are unreasonably paranoid of “climate change.” The rest of the “appliance motorists” will be in simpler, more conventional Otto and Diesel-cycle machines.
