Frank the Falcon up for auction
I have replaced Frank the EF Falcon with another car that will in turn be AutoSpeed’s new project car. Ebay auction for the Falcon is here. It’s an excellent car in its final, modified form.

Just wondering if you ever got around to having the suspension brace fitted on the front end, as part of the goodies provided by whiteline?
on September 11th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
No, the front-end camber kit and and braces were not installed (and will be returned to Whiteline when the car is sold). The LSD centre, which was purchased, will be sold.

So why werent these parts fitted? I imagine they would have made some difference at least, and the LSD would cure the straight line traction problems, if not the power oversteer situation.
What is the next project car? Or do we have to wait for an article?
on September 11th, 2007 at 2:03 pm
I decided it was time to move on.
Re the new car: it will be introduced in a full article. However, two clues: it doesn’t burn petrol and it costs about AUD$6-8K

I’m going to guess that you have some kind of diesel. Reading your articles, I would say a small-medium sized car with a turbocharged common rail engine would be your cup of tea. But finding one for that price? And when can we expect this article?
on September 12th, 2007 at 8:01 am
You are on the right track – although as you say, there aren’t any common rail diesels at that price. The article will apear Oct 12.

Hi.
In the eBay auction you mention additional internal lighting, what was it and is there an AS article on it?
Cheers

general story on interior light upgrades – http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&A=2868
near zero cost cold cathode fluorescent boot light – http://f2.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&A=2868
We also did a specific article on low cost Falcon interior upgrades (that included installing a light from an upper trim model) but I can’t find it at the moment.

Now that you have mentioned it, the google search engine is a step backwards from the one you had earlier. Try finding the article on porting the AU Falcon head, without knowing that the name of the article is Porting Gains. What was the reason for the change?
on October 21st, 2007 at 2:27 pm
No idea – I don’t handle any of the web side of AutoSpeed.
But typing in ‘Falcon Porting’ (the first search I tried) brings it up as number 8 on the list.

I mustn’t have the knack for keyword searching yet then. On another (completely unrelated) note, I know you said you don’t look after the website, but do you know when we are going to be able to add comments at the end of each article?
on October 21st, 2007 at 5:23 pm
You’ve answered it yourself – I don’t handle the web side of things.
My company, Edgar Media, supplies content for use in AutoSpeed (and some in AutoWeb). Web Publications buys that content, owns the websites, runs advertising, etc.
No doubt Nathan from Web Pubs will be along some time to make replies to those points.

I have to agree about the Google site search. It’s a pain to use compared to the old search system. There were some times lately where I wanted to look something up – but I gave up in frustration. I don’t even bother anymore.

Ben,
We have been working on other behind the scenes improvements to AutoSpeed (page loading time for example is much faster now) and haven’t attended to the article commenting function yet. We will be looking at alternatives for that shortly.
The Google site search is also on our list. Due to some system upgrades we were unable to use the old site search. This should be resolved soon, and the search experience should be as good or better than it was before.
